Pre-GW:EN market plays?
Prices of lots of things shot up after Factions and Nightfall were introduced (and later came back to earth). Factions had Amber selling for 3K. A minor assassin rune was about the same. Ectos didn't drop then as many predicted. Nightfall saw similar inflation in materials as everyone armored up their new Dervishes and Paragons. Particular runes, like Superior fire, went through the roof with everyone trying to outfit all of their heroes.
What are you "hedging," if anything, in anticipation of GW:EN? I saw a guy in Kodash Bazaar over the weekend offering many ectos for lots of different rare minipets. Is that the thing to stock up on? I think the HoM will lead to certain items becoming very sought after. Whoever guesses right and takes a gamble is going to be very rich.

Ectos Wont price spike , no new profs , no new fow. Diamonds may due to the possiblity of armor being crafted with them ( Im hoping for something more imaganative but meh.) Runes and Normal Mats will go up slightly but not like previously as everyone will be getting ready now .

Already put some cash into diamonds. If they rise then I'll notice a good difference. If they don't I wouldn't have lost that much on a good risk.

Diamonds are already quite overpriced already, not sure how much money you can make off it. I'm sure if there are new armors that need diamonds, there will be new ways to acquire them (probably a lot more easier than now). Might be able to make some profit from the people who "must have" the new stuff as soon as possible, like those people who spent 40k on white dye when it first came out.

Last time I did this I put my cash into a few different things. Made profit on some, losses on others. I made about even.
Thought I'd take a gamble on the diamonds. If I lose out a lil' who cares? Its a game and I enjoy doing this sorta thing.

My guess is Fur is going to be needed for many armors in the Dwarf/Norn areas. Diamonds will likely be used, only because they aren't used now - probably for some kind of end-game armor. Another material not used currently (or maybe rarely used, don't remember) is Spiritwood Planks. They might be big for perhaps the Asura area, if they have armor.
Dyes are a consistent, nearly guaranteed investment. Everyone will be buying new armor, and we may not know what materials are needed for the new armors, but we do know everyone will be dyeing their armor. As someone mentioned earlier, ectos and shards are a poor investment just because there are no new classes, so no new FoW armors. Anet might surprise us all and make UW armors or require ecto/shards for a different kind of high-end armor, but it's doubtful.

DIAMONDsssss!!
Lol, well i been collecting Trade Contracts for a little while now, just from all the quests that give them as rewards. Done em all on a few characters so far. I think i have about 100, but i wanna keep doing the quests to get way more. This way in my opinion is safer then outright diamond buying, that way i can wait a couple days to see for sure if GW:EN uses them, and then cash em in bulk to get my diamonds...
I'm gonna need a lot lot lot more trade contracts before GW:EN releases!
cheers!

I'm stockpiling greens. If I find a good deal I'll buy them, in hopes that they are weapons you can add to your monument. If they are, I'm willing to bet I can make good money off them, if not.. Hell I won't mind equipping my heros with greens :P
I also have a few +20% charrslaying hilts and I'm stockpiling fur (mentioned above)

I'd considered the fur thing...I thought a lot of the Norn-armors (assuming there are some, of course) would be furry...I have a fair bit of fur but farming some more would probably be an auspicious move.
I've been buying up some diamonds, although for personal use only. My guess is there will be "free" ways to get them (if they are required), like the trade contracts now, but also like the trade contract system it will probably be a very long and drawn out process to obtain them in thay way. I'm buying ~25 Diamonds, roughly the same number as you need Rubies for Vabbian armor, in the hope that if it turns out I do need them I'll have them already...I don't plan on selling them on.
I'm also collecting "slaying" mods...for personal use. So far I have Charrslaying, Demonslaying and Giantslaying bow grips, a Demonslaying axe haft, Charrslaying and Dwarfslaying sword pommels. Meh, they may never come in useful...but it's fun collecting useless things
Making predictions on something we know very little about FTW!

Bought? What a waste of money then. Bones are so easy to get. Gates of Kryta anyone?

They weren't when I bought a couple of stacks a month or two ago. Didn't pay a coin over 2,400. I could sell part of my stash now and already make good on the investment while keeping a healthy few in reserve in anticipation of GW:EN. But since I like to gamble I'm going to hold on to all of them.
Diamond prices are bumping up and down like mad over the last few days, I'm sure there's a lot of trade in them.

Diamonds currently have no use and it is anticipated they may have a use in Guild Wars: Eye of the North, most likely for Armor crafting if they are used. People will tend to buy these materials now to either save money later on or make money later on from selling their stash to other players. It's all a big gamble.

I hung on to my carefully compiled stacks of fur for a long time before I had a clearout and sold them for a pitiful amount, I can now see this may have been a mistake.
Slightly off topic as they aren't available but anyone think Mud and Clay bricks may appear?
I'd like to see the price the first time, if ever, one of those drops.
